SCIENCE FAIR

PFC is hosting a SCIENCE FUN FAIR!!!

PFC is hosting the annual Science Fun Fair on March 29th from 6pm-8pm, in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Doing a science project is a great way for children to gain exposure to science in a fun and creative way.  Projects in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th are required as part of the standard curriculum.  Additional information will be provided by your child's teacher.   For grades kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd, participation is voluntary.  Students may also choose to work in groups.

The Science Fun Fair Committee is also pleased to announce the participation of three scientific groups: Pioneers in Engineering, Lawrence Livermore National Lab and Spectrum of Science.

Please click here for more information about the fair, the exhibitors, volunteer opportunities via VolunteerSpot and to download a copy of  the Parent Handbook.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Vijji at vijji@bpatech.com, Houda at bourouhahouda@yahoo.com or Carolyn at dhccc3@yahoo.com.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

COPY SQUAD

This is a service run by parent volunteers to assist the teaching and office staff with making copies.   We are in desperate need of volunteers to staff Copy Squad time shifts on a regular weekly or bi-weekly basis.  The Copy Squad hours are: 8:35-10:00 a.m. Tue. - Fri. and 2:00-3:00 p.m. Wed.- Fri.  If you would like to help, please contact Amy Johal at ajohal@sbcglobal.net or Jenn Chu Yang at jenncy@comcast.net.

UPCOMING EVENTS

We have lots of fun activities planned for the remainder of the year!  Without volunteers, these events run the risk of being cancelled.  The following committees are still open:

  • Family Movie Night  - April
  • Teacher Appreciation Week - May
  • Field Day - May
  • Green's Pride Day - May
If you are interested in chairing or co-chairing a committee, please contact Irene Padnos at Irenepadnos@mac.com

YEARBOOK

Yearbook Site Logo Order your full-color, 68-page, hard-cover yearbook!

The Yearbook Team needs your pictures so that all John Green Gators can be included in the yearbook.  Please continue to send in pictures of your wonderful Gators to johngreenyearbook@gmail.com.   You may also save  them to a CD or thumb drive with the event/class/ grade info and drop it in the "yearbook box" in the school lobby.

Please contact Monique or Sheila, Yearbook Committee Co-Chairpersons at johngreenyearbook@gmail.com if you have additional questions.

BREAKFAST BOOK CLUB

There are a few more sessions left this school year:  Jan. 31st, Feb. 28th and Mar. 27th.  Be sure to sign up for John Green Breakfast Book Club (JG BBC) during the 2012-2013 check-in days.  The BBC provides a memorable, exciting and supportive experience that focuses on enhancing your child’s joy of reading.  Books are usually hand-picked from a variety of award-winning and/or newly-released books.  Children are asked to read selections on their own each month and prepare for a fun and interactive discussion during each club meet.

For an $85 fee, there are normally 7 or 8 monthly sessions throughout the school year and are generally held during the LAST Tuesday of the month.  BBC is located in the MPR after the 7:30 a.m. drop-off and it includes a healthy breakfast followed by grade level group discussions at 8 a.m.  Children are released from the MPR at 8:30 a.m. and Kindergarteners are escorted to their classrooms by their adult BBC leader.  All BBC kids leave with the next month's book in hand.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact BBC co-chairs Shalini Suravarjjala (shalini@dublin.com) or Regina Pangelinan (pangelinans@sbcglobal.net).  Thank you!

LIBRARY CORNER

Students visit the library with their class once a week for 30 minutes.  Encourage your children to read their books during the week and return books on their assigned library day, so they can borrow new books.

Thanks to all of the parents that have expressed an interest in helping in the library.  At this time, there are enough volunteers.  However, volunteers are needed throughout the year during special events such as book fairs.  Please watch for announcements. For additional library questions, please contact Derek Ngai at NgaiDerek@dublin.k12.ca.us

RECYCLING

Congratulations to our Recycling Pizza Party Contest winners - It's a 3-way tie!

Our winners are:  Mrs. Sotelo's 1st grade and Mrs. Taugher and Mrs. Hebel's 2nd grade classes!  They each win a pizza party for bringing their trash-free, recycling bins out every Tuesday and Thursday during the contest period.

Please remind kids to recycle their food tray and plastic bottles/cans at lunchtime.  Let's all do our part for the environment!

Bring your empty plastic bottles from home (CRV only please!) and help raise money to keep our Gator Garden growing!  Place donated bottles in the blue can in the lobby.  Thanks for your support!
